The Welcome Assembly and Freshmen Orientation with the theme ‘New Jewels of PCCM, Shine Bright City Scholars’ was held today at 8:00 a.m at the Meycauayan Convention Center. The purpose of this event was to warmly welcome the 1st-year students of Polytechnic College of the City of Meycauayan (PCCM) to the institution.

Hosted by Mr. John Carvin Bautista, the Scribes Editor-in-Chief, and Ms. Alyssa Emery Berboso, the College Student Government (CSG) Vice President, the event formally began with the Philippine National Anthem, followed by a prayer, and the Awit ng Meycauayan, presented via Audio Visual Presentation (AVP). The acknowledgment of the participants and the presentation of the PCCM family was headed by Ms. Melissa T. Rodriguez, the Human Resource Officer/GAD Focal Person of PCCM. Mr. John Benedict Taboada Jr., the CSG PRO External, read the Statement of Purpose of the event, followed by a heartfelt welcome message from Dr. Reneliza C. Sta Ana, PhD, the College Dean and Acting College Administrator. She also presented the meaning of JEWEL: Journey, Excellence, Wisdom, Empowerment, and Leadership, which, according to her, PCCMians should embody. City Mayor, Atty. Henry Villarica, also left a special message for the freshmen.

PCCM’s Vision and Mission were presented by Ms. Rhia Joyce O. Rulloda, the CSG President of the Academic Year 2023-2024. The newly-elected CSG President of the Academic Year 2024-2025, Mr. Jericho M. Dela Rosa alongside their newly-elected officers were also introduced to the first-year students at the turnover ceremony.

The Student Services were explained by the heads of each office: Mr. Gian Andrei Guardiano, the Guidance counselor and Scholarship Coordinator for Guidance Services; Ms. Marie Hazel Castro, R.N., and Ms. Rutchell Aquino, the College Nurses for Clinic/Health Services; and Ms. Mary Ann Gallardo, the OSA Assistant, and Dr. Ma. Paz G. Contreras, the OSA Director, for the Office of Student Affairs Services. The SECURE Program and the K-Card were introduced to the first-year students by Mr. Lorenz Geraldez, the Head of the Quality Assurance Office. Ms. Andrea Mae Dionisio, the CSG Secretary, introduced the ACSO organizations that the freshmen may join.

The Program Heads provided an introduction and explanation to the first-year students about the description and rules of each program: Prof. Frederick Berboso, the Teacher Education Program (TEP) Head; Prof. Rose Kathleen Delos Santos, the Office Administration Program (OAP) Head; and Prof. Maria Sheryl Decilio, the Hospitality Management Program (HMP) Head. The freshmen also shared their takeaways from the orientation. The event concluded with the pledge of the first-year students and closing remarks by Mr. Gerard Gaza, the Administrative Officer V, who left a memorable quote: “Ang ating layunin ay ang ating pagkatuto.”
